I am in my junior year and transfered here this past year. I am a college of business student majoring in business administration and I have had a very mixed experience here as far as overall satisfaction. The classes and course work so far have been very good and the professors have been for the most part very good at teaching their subject and helping students. And other than placing me in the wrong class for one of my business courses, the educational aspect has been very good. My big problem here is residential life (dorm room and housing). I got my room assignment at the beginning of the semester and was not assigned a roommate. The floor's RA told me that i should make sure my room was always ready for me to receive a roommate (keeping me stuff on my side of the room, etc.)and that i did not need to move. But in the week prior to mid-terms i got a letter telling me that i had to switch rooms and move in with someone because it was against their policy for a student in my hall to not have a roommate. This policy makes absolutely no sense to me because my old room would just sit empty, go unused and i would be forced to move right when im studying for mid-terms. They then tell me that if i do not move into another room with a roommate by the end of the next week that the locks on my (at the time) current room will be changed and possible judicial actions will be taken. So i talk to the RA and find out who they want me to move in with. The guy they expect me to move in with has repeatedly got in trouble for smoking in his room (the entire building is non smoking) and his previous roommate could not stand him and moved out in the first couple weeks of the semester. I asked them why they are doing this and they cannot give me a legitimate answer other than they have to do it because it is their policy. I can not believe that this is how they treat students who are paying approx. $3600 per semester to live there. This would not be so bad if they just said "if you don't like it then, live off campus", but in the week before the sent me the letter to change my room, they told me that if i wanted to keep my same room next semester (which at the time i did) that i had to sign a legally binding contract for the entire next year (fall and spring semesters). So i signed the contract and then they pull all this stuff on me, so even though i want to live off campus next semester, i can't. I've never been jerked around more or treated like just a number more than with the university housing here. Live off campus if you can!
