Just want to say that Ball State prepared me to be a life long learner. It wasn't so much what I learned in the classroom, but it was the experiences that were provided outside the classroom. Ball State was and still is very innovative in the sense that they provide learning outside the classroom. I was and education major and all for years I was able to take advantage of working with students and schools in the Muncie area. My junior year consisted of going to England and teaching and living with the English people. Then backpacking through Europe. This experience was one of the most outstanding experiences I've ever had. I have traveled extensively since then but never have I been able to recapture the learning, resources and the opportunities that I was provided that quarter. Most foreign study programs take place in university settings and not with real people from the culture. Ball State at that time was ahead of the times and continues to be ahead in their variety of foreign study programs.

Last year I was able to go back for a reunion with students and our professor for our overseas program. He celebrated his 90th birthday and still is as sharp as a tack. Ball State may not have the most exciting city surrounding it but the opportunities there, if you decide to investigate, are unbelievable. It is large enough that you always are able to meet a new face but small enough that professors will take you under their wing. Just remember behind every deary Indiana cloud is a beautiful silver opportunity. (lining)
