I am active-duty military, and there is not a better University around for me, as I can complete my studies around my work, which has enabled me to take classes while deployed and also stationed overseas elsewhere. All books and materials for the courses are provided, so you only pay for tuition. This makes it quite a bargain, especially for someone using Tuition Assistance through the military or an employer.

I personally enjoy the coursework, as it is interesting and thoroughly evaluates how well you understand it. There are few actual tests; you will rarely encounter multiple-choice here. You will find a great deal of essays and research papers, which some may not like. I find it more challenging, as it prevents one from just guessing his/her way through multiple-choice exams and the like. Additionally, in terms of coursework, I also enjoy the fact that every class I have taken uses several different books, and not necessarily textbooks. They are books written by experts in their field of study, and show several different perspectives and topics within the classes.

In regards to extracurricular activities and that kind of thing, if that is an issue for you, AMU may not be for you because you won't find it here. For me, it is a moot point because I care about the quality of education and don't need to sit through long, boring lectures in class, and don't need or want to deal with frat parties and the like.

Finally, one last comment I'll make is that AMU has a truly diverse and interesting class offering geared towards military and those interested in working in the security sector. Obviously, if you plan on majoring in something like Chemistry, it may be better to take classes at an actual campus, but if you get a degree in something like Intelligence Studies (like me), this is the place to be. The course truly is interesting and challenging, and the instructors have all been people with a great deal of experience within the military and/or intelligence field. Okay, end rant now.
