UCSB is a great school. Academically, the student population is very diverse. Some really smart people but a few who are really stupid. Most are in between, and people are very approachable. It seems that most of the smart students are involved in the sciences, which reflects UCSB's reputation at being strong in these areas. So far, classes have been very manageable, with not too much work; however, this is very major dependent. If you are in the search for a college, I would recommend this school. In my opinion, all large research universities like UCSB are basically the same. Lectures for introductory classes are huge and impersonal. Some of my professors have been really engaging and inspiring, and some have been condescending and arrogant. When signing up for classes I recommend checking the rate my professors site first.Living in the dorms has its ups and downs, too. I was a little worried about making friends before coming here, but it has turned out to be easy. The dorms are really loud which can be irritating, but this is my only complaint. Food is okay at first, but you will most likely get sick of it eventually. Looking forward to living in IV next year. Oh and the stories about IV are true. Its pretty crazy, but really laid back. |
