I came as an out-of-state student and feel the extra cost was not worth it. The school is huge, people tend to hang out with their in-state high school friends so making friends is a bit tough at first. Most of the faculty as tops in their fields but hard to connect to (some were great). You are a number at this school and this is the part that the advertising is not honest about. Not everyone here is supersmart and at times I wondered how in the world they got here. The school tries to represent the entire state of NC so some folks come from substandard high schools. If you are not in the honors program or have a lot of AP credit, you will be in HUGE classes the first two years which can be depressing. The science classes number in the 100's and labs are crowded. If you are not into bigtime sports, the environment can be a bit tiresome. However, the school is so big, you can, with work, find a good number of people to be friends with. |
