I can appreciate NYU for what it is—a large university in the center of the best neighborhood on earth. Greenwich Village simply CANNOT be beat, its fantastic. Hands down the best, best, best part of NYC if not the world. Its full of culture, bustling with real people and humming with life and its way chiller then mid or uptown. The west village is really quaint and adorable while the east is full of bars and every store you can imagine. Sure, its not a "campus" but its even better. Washington Sq Park exceeded all of my expectations—its sort of like a quad in its own special way.

NYC is not a college town, however. Never forget that. The city isn't meant for 18-21 year olds to run around, its a very late 20s-30s scene. It's very easy to get into the bars and everything (with a good fake), but its still an older scene. Its super fun sometimes but it can also get creepy. People in New York, not necessarily NYU, are very stuck up and pretentious which can rub off on the student body very quickly.

However, like local New Yorkers, NYUers mind their own business. This isn't high school part II and that's the best thing about it. Everyone has their own groups, their own thing going on. There's no gossip, people don't know anything about you unless you make yourself known which in my opinion is an amazing and rare thing to find in an undergraduate experience. People aren't warm and fuzzy but they're not mean or anything, you just have to make more of an effort to get to know them. This is not a school for anyone who needs their hand held in any way shape or form. What you see is what you get at NYU.

All in all, I've found the academics to be amazing (the NYU "brand name" is definitely worth paying 60K for, trust me). The people have a hard exterior but once they open up and you find your group, there is no other school in the ENTIRE world that you would want to go to. If you can handle NYU, you will have the best and most unique undergraduate experience and you will be completely prepared for whatever the world throws at you post-graduation. I do not recommend it for the faint of heart however. Gotta have tough ass skin to survive here! This city is not warm and fuzzy by any means.
