I've only been here about two months, but I've experienced enough to give me a decent amount to comment on.

I can definitely say I'm surprised to read some of the negative reviews, but everyone has their own experiences, opinions, etc.

Good Things:

1. The type of student attracted: I have generally enjoyed the company of people in my building/classes. There is the occasional jerk, but most people are friendly and interesting, just trying to be successful just like you! No matter what personality you have or look for - you'll find it here.

2. Diversity: there's a good reason the university claims to have the most diversity of any in the country. There are so many international students here - it's amazing! Probably not the best place to attend if you tend to have racist tendencies, but otherwise, you'll really enjoy the culture and diversity offered.

3.Extra-curriculars: Lots of clubs and sports. (no soccer for men though!) For pretty much anything you're looking for, it can be found in some organization.

4.Food: The meal plans are expensive, but the main dining hall cooks pretty decent food and even the basic meal plan is generous with meals - you'll have tons left over.

5. Safety: This area of L.A. is known for being dangerous - but it's honestly not that bad. The UNIV tends to clean up the area - and the Department of Public Safety patrols probably more than needed. They're typically very relaxed about rules, etc., but they do take our safety seriously.

Bad things:

1.Imbalanced majors: Fine arts and architecture students, etc. have loads more work than most other majors. I think hours of work/intensity could be a little bit more balanced; some majors stress out the kids just too much.

2.Expenses: this is self-explanatory. Basically, expect to be nickled and dimed.

3. Traffic: Lots of cars, bikes, and people on a small campus. If you have classes at the same times as many people, you'll have to leave early if you want to get there without a hassle or on-time.

4. Bureaucracy: In a way I'm sure the UNIV is ahead of the pack in intensity, it's a very bureaucratic school. Lots of hoops and obstacles to jump through to get even simple things done, but I still feel like it was worth the effort.
