No other business I know comes to mind when I think of businesses that do everything they can to squeeze money out of you while hurting your future. Last year there were 900 students per academic adviser. Lets say you don't know what class of a list of classes would be more beneficial to your major. You can go to your adviser and ask…in 6 weeks. If you do not have that amount of time before you need to make a decision don't bother. They will be wayyyyy too busy helping no one out to even see you. The university is guilty of some pretty awful things such as making your scholarships disappear until you call them to interrogate someone about it. Has happened to more than one person I know. The campus is only a couple blocks long in each direction. Small enough that if for instance the lawn in the middle of the campus was a free speech zone that bands and booths with stereos could rent space on, well, all your classes might fall within easy ear shot of that disruptive noise. Its an every other day occurrence. The food is sub-par.The dormitories are depressingly awful. The neighborhood is unbelievably unsafe to live anywhere near.On the bright side, the department I am in, has a few wonderful teachers that are some days worth all the hassle. Most days, nothing can make UC not suck. |
