I am going to tell you what I have seen at Reynolds Community College. I, myself, went to a public high school in the West End Henrico/Richmond area. I had a fine child hood, and my high school was a great school with a safe amount of diversity. The reason I came to Sarge is for 2 reasons; I slacked off in high school barley reaching a 3.0 without ANY work, and I am not born in America (which means I don't have a tree in my backyard that grows 100 dollar bills). I could have gone to a easy-to-get-in school like CNU, ODU, Radford, etc, but I chose to not get into debt at an early age, and basically found out that, minus the social life, the first 2 years at a CC are practically the same as they are at any other school.

The idea of a community college is great. People get to go to school or even back to school to improve their lives. CC is a life saver for a lot of people like me because it gives me a great opportunity to transfer to ANY public school I want to after 2 years. Yes, I can get into schools like UVA, VT, JMU, CNU, ODU, WM, Longwood, etc, just by finishing to easy years at Reynolds. Thank God the government did one thing right with the public school systems!

If you are going to Sarge soon, don't ever forget this: If you are white, deal with the white staff/faculty, and if you are black, deal with the black staff/faculty. There is this unspoken race rule around Sarge that I have noticed a lot. I am white, the white teachers treat me very well, so do many black teachers but the black teachers treat the black students differently. I Don't think it's racism, I just think it's a way of people bonding together more. If you go in to talk to an adviser, talk to someone that is your race. The first time I went in there, I got a black female that gave me a few classes that I "might" want to take and told me to go home and wait till Fall school season to start. I went back in, and coincidentally ended up talking to someone like myself and she gave me some information that I HAD TO DO to even start going to Sarge. If it wasn't for Mrs. Carol Krantz, I would have probably NEVER started going to school on time. Carol is a very helpful person, and she seriously does care, and even goes out of her way to help everyone. Tre'na is also a helpful person in the office that I have noticed and I would recommend her. Do not talk to anyone else b/c I have noticed that many people their just want you out of their office ASAP.

Now, if you are choosing classes for next semester.. CHOOSE WISELY! Go to RateMyProfessor.com always and check out your teacher if you haven't yet.

For English, I recommend Brownhill and Physillis Davis (this lady loves to connect with her students)

history; Shepherd. One of the greatest teachers at Sarge.

Business and ECO: Eseonu

Math: Lamb!!

Choose wisely, b/c if you choose a teacher who gives out an "F" like it was oxygen, then you can seriously hurt your chances of transferring to a good school.

Now, about campus security. Basically rent-a-cops who can legally give you a ticket. Follow the rules while driving, stop at all stop signs, don't speed, etc… They will pull you over. Park correctly b/c they love to give out tickets like hot cakes.

As for books, try searching for students who have had your class and ask them if you can buy it off them. Do not go to bookstore unless it is a last minute kind of thing. Look around the walls, people post advertisements to sell their books all the time.

There are a lot of people that smoke at Sarge. 99% of them smoke outside of Burnette building and all look like they'll be working at Wal-Mart after school. Warning, if you stand out there smoking, you will be approached at least once a day by some ghetto guy saying

hey yo anyone got a smoke
and if you reject him, he will shrug you off as if he had cancer and you were the person that gave it to him.

I have more to say but I just don't have time to say it now. I, overall would rate this school to be positive. It has many problems internally and it is embarrassing to say that I go to a community college, but… this school is an amazing stepping stone for people who don't have much money and for people who have made mistakes in high school or earlier in life. I will be transferring to Virginia Tech this semester and I know for a fact that this school is the reason why I am going to be Hokie. I have had good times and bad times here but it paid off. Thank you Sarge…! Goodluck to everyone, I hope you make it like I did!
