The Chemistry department is a joke. I feel as if I am not getting my money's worth. Basically, the students are given these ChemActivity excercises to do in class and the teachers barely lecture or tell you what to expect on quizzes or exams. It's kinda of like the teachers are like here's what we need to do, you have your book, best of luck to you-all they have to do is walk around the classroom…must be nice to get paid and not have to do anything. Anyways, when test day comes you will be presently surprised with a test that is 2 levels above anything you have went over in class. This is of course your fault because you were suppose to do the 100+ problems from homework, ungraded homework, and your Moog text book which will take you forever and half to actually complete b/c you don't know how the hell to do them. By the way, the reason you don't know how is because the teacher doesn't teach. That is all I wanted was to be TAUGHT! They take a difficult subject and have made it MORE difficult than it has to be. The class structure has created more frustration which has caused me not to learn as much. The sad thing is I spend MOST of my time on Chemistry and it is my worst grade; I have made all A's on my college coursework except for this class and I truly beleive it is the teaching method. Something needs to be done about it. I have enjoyed my other classes at Guilford but have considered transferring from the college JUST because of this class. BTW the Biology department is great! |
