I am currently in my final semester at City College and for the past five years it has been nothing but bad experiences for me. After a year at City College I was contemplating to switch my major from Studio Art to Computer Science. The reason for this was because I had a growing interest in programming. Unfortunately, I did not do so because of the fact that many of the professors do not follow their own syllabus.

Many professors do not even follow the textbooks which makes it a bit difficult to find sources where you can review or look back to for reference. Many professors criticize students rather than explain or point out their flaws in a professional manner.

Even advisors criticize students and look down upon them for ridiculous reasons. Due to this and many other factors I would say that coming to City College was the worse decision of my entire life. Rather than leave, I continued to stay believing that matters would improve. There were some good semesters and many were bad. Sadly, the bad semester outnumber the good ones.

The Career Center is also another problem. It caters mostly to students of Engineering, Biomedical, Psychology and Economics. The staff does a wonderful job helping these students with their resumes, cover letters and even interviewing procedures, but when it comes to students from other fields they do not help to the extent that they do with the students of those majors mentioned above. With these type of students but the college is not comprised of only these types of students.

In the end, I stayed in Studio Art with a focus in Electronic/Graphic Design. Even throughout other departments I have faced similar situations and at the end I passed the classes but barely learn anything new. The purpose of going to college is to learn new material or expand your knowledge on a specific subject area. This has not happened at City College. I will be graduating in May of 2010 and looking back at my years spent here it was a total waste.
