Regardless of what anyone says, San Jose State University has both pros and cons. It really depends on your department and the amount of effort you put into the school. For instance, SJSU is a good school for Engineering. In fact, they are pretty well known for their engineering program. You are in the heart of the Silicon Valley and your opportunities are endless. For their school of Journalism and Mass Communications (which include Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, etc.) the program is quite exceptional. The work you do is very applied (not just reading and taking tests) and their are great student organizations to help you get involved in your career. The school of Business (includes Finance, Operations Management, Accounting, Marketing, etc.) is not the best. Don't get me wrong, you can learn something, but only from books and power point slides. Your class sizes are very large, most of your professor are hard to understand, and you are just a number, so don't plan on getting much help with anything (including advising). I would suggest talking to a student from whatever department you are interested in. The students will tell you exactly how it is.

The school overall is very large, so if you cannot get a class because they are overcrowded, do not be surprised. You are pretty much just another student there, but there are a lot of programs out there for you, if you're interested. For students who are confused about whether or not you should come to this school, you just have to consider whether or not you are willing to put in the effort to get the most out of this school. The school does not cater to you, you must cater to it. If you can put in that effort, then you will enjoy it here. If you want school spirit, then go to the Associated Student events and get it. If you want help, make an appointment with an adviser ahead of time, for some help. Realize though, at this school, you are your form of help and support.
