I've taken a good mix of art and science classes (along with the normal english, psych, etc). The Good:The Biotech program is great (lead by Dr. Pegg) and has several new pieces of equipment to use in the many lab courses thanks to the $4 million he received for writing grants last year. The art professors I've had are very creative people who have showed pieces of their own around the country (and world). Very helpful and encouraging while helping to hone your art skills. The Bad:It's a community(now state)college that does offer a few bachelor's programs. Not every professor is qualified to teach courses that will correctly prepare you for the field work (or so I feel). A lot of the classes are easy to get through if you actually do the work (not very challenging and very few if any rewards for exceeding). The Ugly:FSCJ has several campuses in Duval County/Jacksonville. Jacksonville is HUGE and at times VERY frustrating to drive in (I've been in Atlanta and this is worse). I've lived here or nearby for over 20 years (born and raised) and it's only gotten worse. Because the campuses are in separate areas (Beaches, Riverside, Downtown, Northside, etc) and each campus focuses on different areas (Beaches=Art, Downtown=Science, etc) taking a variety of courses can be trying (especially going to/from classes at different campuses). DO THIS:Plan your schedule early and try to get classes at the same campus or at least on the same day. |
