Well, altogether, I have mixed views. Although I CANNOT STAND the surrounding area (desert town with almost nothing to do), the college campus itself was better than I expected. The landscaping is decent, and the campus surrounds a beautiful lake. It's one of the few places in Victorville that's nice to look at. The architecture and technology are relatively up-to-date. The buildings have kind of a "modern" look, while not seeming too industrial. The library is nice and has an interesting interior. That said, the relatively new "Advanced Technology Center" does have its negatives, i.e. strict internet access, and a weird giant revolving door everyone gets frustrated with…

As far as the faculty goes, you've got good and bad. I've had a few amazing teachers that have been engaging, passionate for what they do, and appreciative of the creative mind. I respected them immensely for bringing a little culture to the High Desert. On the other hand, I've also had some that were…nothing special. I was lucky enough not to get anyone terrible (I used rate my professor sites), but I've heard stories. I will say that a lot of people here, both students and faculty, are closed-minded. A lot of staunchly conservative folks, as this is a VERY conservative town - and they can be condescending. That said I was still lucky enough to get a political science teacher who was unbiased and discreet about her personal views.

If you're looking for a social life here…look somewhere else. It's not impossible to make friends, but there isn't much opportunity. Clubs aren't very prevalent/talked about. And again, not much to do in town.

Counselors are…relatively helpful, and there are resources if you look for them. Tutoring has recently been severely cut, though, due to budget. One huge negative is a lack of options for those who intend to transfer (as I'm doing). They automatically assume a student will either commute to the nearest Cal State (CSUSB) after they transfer or just plain stay in the High Desert and attend a satellite campuses like LaVerne or Azusa Pacific. A lot of classes which bigger, farther universities require for transfer aren't offered at VVC. I had an excellent Jurnalism class and teacher, but the Journalism program itself is ignored for the most part, and for many universities is not up to par.

Overall, it's better than it could be, and it's providing me with what I need to transfer. If you've been stuck in the area for years, like I have, it's a way to get out if you stick with it. You'd be surprised though how many people have no desire to leave. And they're often really not happy there, but apathetic and complacent, have oh-well-why bother attitude. My advice to anyone who attends this college is to do what you need to do, enjoy what good things you find, and get out, before the High Desert traps you.
