I loved Emmanuel College. Most of the professors are awesome- ESPECIALLY THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT FACULTY. I had one professor while I was there (not in my major, so I only had him for one class) that was old and his tests never matched what he was teaching. I think his retirement is long overdue. Aside from him, the quality of the education is superb. Most of the professors don't just have you pick up a text and read it. They really get you to thinking about the material. They are caring and want you to be the best in your profession. They will work with you to try to help you completely understand the material if you have issues. They don't just feed you to the wolves, but they are not going to just give you an easy A either—you have to work for what you get. They are very approachable, and this is one of the best assets to this college.

Don't let the college's Pentecostal-Holiness denomination detour you. They do not force Pentecostal beliefs on you, and are tolerant of other Christian denominations. I am an old-time Baptist. I got most of my information early on about the college from a couple of Catholic alumni. In the music department, I think I had only one PH professor. The dean was Baptist, and the other professors were from several different denominations-everything from Presbyterian to Episcopalian. The school is evangelical and does not discriminate on religion, but the school is a staunch Christian environment. You are expected to live to the utmost principles. Anyone who is found in violation of moral rules (ie. drugs, alcohol, sexual relationship outside of marriage, homosexuality, etc.) will be expelled. Like any college out there, not everyone is perfect. You may find a classmate who does just not represent the best Christian attitude. But 99% percent of the people you meet are friendly, kind, helpful, and love the Lord. You won't find any wild partying, but this is better for academic learning anyway.

Franklin Co. is very rural, but Athens is only about 20-30 minutes down the road.

I'd never thought much about going to a Christian college, but when I got to EC, I realized would not have been as happy or have done as well at a secular institute. I strongly recommend Emmanuel for anyone out there. They are planning to add a master's program in the next few years. I would like to return for my grad degree.
