I don't know why people keep trying to compare Tech to UVA, William & Mary, and JMU. That's like comparing apples to oranges—especially in the case of W&M, which doesn't even offer engineering and is primarily a liberal arts school. And last time I checked, both W&M and UVA were harder to get into and had higher caliber students overall (with Tech's engineering and architecture programs being notable exceptions)and are considered "public ivies." Very smart people choose all four schools for a variety of reasons and they all have pros and cons. I've had siblings and/or cousins at all of them—so I know what I'm talking about. So stop comparing and figure out what you can get from Tech while you're here. I personally have found the huge classes here, professors who don't speak English well, and the lack of personal attention to be a problem. My cousin at W&M, for example, is having a total "ivy-like" experience there with small classes, stimulating discussions, professors who know him, and even hot girls to go out with. However, the social life is pretty good here at Tech, and Blacksburg is fun. I will probably stay here, even though I have some issues with the place. And people at Tech seem to think the only thing in life is football, but I kinda knew that coming in, so I'm fine with it. |
