Because the student body is so small (300+ students total), there are a relatively few options for classes and clubs relative to large universities. While this may seem constricting at first glance, it is actually a huge blessing. Olin's small size allows students to try most of the college's offerings - so a student can feel like they made a large dent in the curricula offered. In fact, the most ambitious of students can take most of the classes in a single major, though that requires a very heavy course load throughout all eight semesters. Clubs have very strong membership, because they can see the impact of groups very tangibly on campus.(Also, students get funding from the school for activities and really put that money to use for fun social events.) Many skill sets (like cadding and fire arts, for example) are developed here - and many of them are not academically related. The rich culture here and excellent social environment puts Olin a step above other engineering schools.Because of the strong education and the nurturing social environment at Olin, the students truly enjoy their time here and graduate having accomplished a lot. |
