I'm sure you've heard of it. Obviously, it's a great school academically, and you're going to get an exceptional education for what you're paying (at least you could when I was there, with fee hikes this is not quite as true anymore). However, if you want an education that will help prepare you for an occupation, you're probably better off somewhere else. I am quite frustrated with the lack of practical application in any of the courses. Everything at Berkeley is theoretical, and that makes it hard to develop job skills. And you would think that having a degree from such a high ranking school would help you get a job, but at least in this economy, having an undergraduate degree from Berkeley isn't likely to help you. On the other hand, I definitely learned how to think and figure things out, and that is something that employers look for. So really, it just depends on what you want to do, but if you want to go practical, and you're sure about what you want to do, go somewhere that will prepare you better. |
