Despite its ranking, the University of Michigan suffers from location (Midwest), lacking the kind of international diversity you might find in Stanford or UC Berkeley. If you're out-of-state, and even more so, international, definitely give some thought to this aspect, and how it will effect your social life. Most of the kids here have never been outside of N. America, and it shows, in the form of, I hate to say it, naivete and as a result that could sometimes be perceived as close-mindedness. Aside from that, the faculty is remarkably accessible, at least compared to stories from friends who've been to Harvard, Princeton, etc. |
