What I discovered was that hipsters had replaced hippies, Dubstep had replaced Phish, and although lots of people are into the outdoors it's hard to get out of Burlington and go hiking unless you're lucky enough to have a car or know people with a car. Also, it's cold as balls for most of the academic year and if you don't ski, like me, then you will have virtually nothing to do when it's cold and snowy and the majority of the rich white preppy hipsters have gone skiing. So basically, don't come here expecting hippies and Nature-loving friendly people. Those days are gone. Also diversity is terrible. Most folks are rich white kids from Jersey, New York or New England who basically consider the university a 4 year ski opportunity. By the way, it's REALLY expensive, since the state of Vermont only has 600 thousand people, it gets no money from the government and is therefore more of a private university than public. |
