Honestly? Like most schools, you get what you put into it. GCC—and Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) in general—is part of it. For the most part, classes were typically small and—as long as you got a faculty member and not an adjunct—accessible. Even with some of the adjuncts, they are often either moonlighting from one of the other nearby universities or are PhD students at them. I took an Associate in Science degree in order to transfer to ASU. I started as a pre-nursing major and figured out it wasn't for me after listening to several of my instructors who were nurses discuss what actually went on in the career field. I don't feel bad because the nursing pre-requisites turned out to be just what I needed to really get ahead in my bachelor's degree.Social life at GCC—likewise—is what you make it. I still see and talk to many of my friends from GCC, but mostly in spite of social life at school.Academics—at least in Biology, Math, Psychology, and Anthropology—is about what you will get at ASU and are usually fully transferable to all three state universities (and others). Do yourself a favor though and check the Course Equivalency Guide before you commit to a class you want to transfer. It's on-line and it will save you wear and tear on transfer stress. Additionally, if you plan on transferring in-state, many of the transfer partners have specific MCCCD transfer agreements that essentially guarantee what you take on the list transfers without a problem. |
