Have some kind of plan before starting at UMass. Research all the programs you're interested in, and then some. Please be aware that just because you were accepted into the school does not mean that you will be able to study what you want. Some programs require additional applications, such as the business school, journalism, studio art, etc. Transfer students, at least in my experience, are not given much of an orientation or assistance. You really have to work extra hard to get to know the ins and outs of the school. The biggest thing to remember about attending UMass Amherst is to be proactive. It is so easy to just go through the motions here and have no involvement in the UMass community. Believe it or not, you really can be invisible here. So, get involved and be your own advocate. |
