The social life at Mason is ok if you are in a frat bc you can attend parties and meet girls otherwise you'll live between your home and your class. Fairfax is not exciting at all and DC is too far. What pisses me off the most about mason is that they have so much money bc they are in Northern Va and yet they offer the worst education and service to the students. I graduated with a BS in Information Systems. I felt that the program was a joke. That is hard to believe because there so many IS pros in the area that can work as teachers. The way classes are taught is you print handouts from the publisher's website, you attend very large size classes, the teacher goes over the slides, you take a large 50-100 Qs multiple choice test generated from a bank, and it was obvious that teachers were wingging lectures. The books for some classes are mason issued, very communista. The campus is overcrowded, and widespread, and facilities inadequate. The campus felt and still feels very cold and boring. I know some people still in the school and they tell me the teaching style is still the same. I really feel that I cheated myself by going to Mason and I did not have a good experience. My advice is if you visit the campus and get the same feeling or didn't like mason or any other college for any reason and feel you'll have a bad experience then run from it even if the tuition is paid in full b/c you only get one undergraduate college experience and you should make the most of it. If I can do it again then I would not have forced myself to be in a place I didn't want to be in because fear of being out of my comfort zone and I didn't want to lose the 3rd party scholarship I had and find opportunities else where. Good luck with your life and make a lot of friends, be nice to everyone and not close minded like mason teachers and admins, and get good grades so you can be successful in life and in your careers. I give mason an F. |
