The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is a school that is designed for the casual student who is working and already fairly set in a career. The faculty generally friendly but become very self absorbed when confronted with a student who has interest other than the professor. You get the usual old talk about that is what professors do and how they have done it for a very long time. However, they completly miss the fact that this is now not 30 or 40 years ago and that students are considerably different in all respects now than they were even 20 years ago. The geoscience program has NO opportunity to do anything that is of real value to the students but yet the professors are constantly trying to get students 'involved'. That involvement only goes as far as needed for the professors to secure a grant to make the administration happy. In short UTPB is a waste of time and money. |
