After having been here almost three years now I can truly say that the administration of this university only cares about money. I have been involved in several university sponsored activities and been a part of student government for two years now so I have had the opportunity or displeasure to see the countless kinds of double-standards that happen here. "Christian" is just a word they use in the marketing department to make parents and prospective students think they will be in that kind of environment. Truth is that the university is run by a bunch of good ole white boys who mostly graduated from the university themselves and just moved up the ranks by firing everyone who didn't agree with them. The university is loaded with faculty and administrators who are not even academically qualified. As a rule, the university operates with "don't ask, don't tell" policy which explains why there are several gay people who work at this university and have direct contact with students daily. Not that I have a problem with their sexual preference but I wonder how many of the students and their parents would have chosen this university if they knew that information. This is just one of the many double standards that occur at UMHB all the time. In essence if you want to spend a lot of money, get a poor education, be criticized and judged for everything and probably be unemployed when you leave then this is the university for you. |
