The science professors are top-notch although EXTREMELY difficult. Dr. Shive's general chemistry class (you'll have him for 1 and 2) is definitely a weed-out with test averages in the 70s. He's taught some of the students' parents years ago and knows what he's doing but he's not easy. The non-science courses I've taken have been fairly simple and I believe that will continue. Granted, I'm a neuroscience major and don't plan on taking any humanities courses beyond the 200 level. What all of the courses have in common are the small sizes and absolutely dedicated/humorous/helpful/approachable professors. That even goes for Dr. Shive. The social life has been surprisingly fun. It's a type of school where you can find people to get down and drink/party or snuggle up for a Friday/Saturday night movie (or Thursday!). Your choice. The student population is homogenous on the surface, but get to know us and you'll find a diverse, interesting group of people. I thought that theatre people were fake snobs before I got here but most are GENUINELY nice people. And the pre-meds are not "overly" competitive. Most are high achieving (maybe overachieving) but are super nice and willing to help each other. It's just not a competition here.On Allentown - Just be smart, don't walk alone, and you'll be fine. There have been robberies as one poster said, but I always feel safe when walking with friends. |
