I think there are a lot of things that could have gone worse for me at this school. What I think makes my comments lean toward the positive have been the faculty, which I really feel that I've lucked out on.

Quite a few of my friends here have told me that their professors don't like talking to them, and that they're hard to get in touch with. However, I have never had that experience, and I've gone through nine different majors.

That said, the Anthropology department is my favorite. I actually dropped my Political Science double major because I felt that the professors, though nice, were too rigid and not challenging us to truly think critically, but to regurgitate rote knowledge.

The Anthropology is diverse and quite challenging. I feel that I will really use the methods of thinking and information that I've gained from the department, throughout my life. Also, the professors are wonderful. They're all brilliant, but best of all, they are so willing to have conversations with you outside of class. I've had an Anthropology professor ask a group of us to go the pub for drinks. One of my professors offered me money to do research in Africa. I regularly email one of my professors just to have the most hilarious conversations.

Ah, but I should mention that things don't really get challenging until after you've taken all of the introductory classes. Luckily, I've only had professors teach my classes, not lecturers, so you can get a lot out of their tangents. So if you're actually interested in learning, specifically about Anthropology, it's a great place.

I'm also a Chinese major. The faculty are incredibly smart, though a bit more rigid than the Anthropology department.

I should also mention that I barely graduated from high school, so I think I'm really grateful for my education here because it was a reach school for me. I really don't know why they're giving me so many grants, either. But I'll take what I can get.

In tandem with my own motivation, and my interest in many (too many?) of the great classes they teach here, I've been able to maintain a 3.5, which all of my friends from back home are shocked at.

Oh, some negatives. Food sucks. It's not that easy to be a vegan and it's expensive. If you're not into house parties, you may not have that much to do besides hanging out with people, luckily I've made some great friends. Everybody here is white, and they pretend to be really interested in your cultural experience. The school is ridiculously expensive. I needed to be an RA or I would have had to drop out. The study abroad process is heinous. And some of the dorms are atrocious.

That said, I still love this school.
