Overall I would say the stereotype holds true at Tulane: its non-denominational so many, many jewish students are present here, there is A LOT of jappy girls, a lot of "lax bros", and insanely wealthy, stuck-up people. These kids definitely bring a snobby aura to the school in a way, but there is such a strong creative, intelligent, and wordly vibe here that I can't really explain… but it definitely attracts very well-rounded, knowledgable people. To summarize, Tulane is a very "rich-person" school and has its stereotypes, but regardless of status/label, intelligence and cultural awareness is present in almost every single person ive met there. I think this is probably because your everyday person wouldn't choose to study in New Orleans.

I'm in pre-medicine, so I would say the classes are incredibly difficult. I find school to be very competitive, but I notice that it is truly the Architecture and Science& Engineering schools that generate that kind of work environment. If you were taught very well in highschool, you will find coursework to be more time consuming than challenging, especially your first year. Most of my friends are in the bschool; they love their professors, and definitely don't work TOO hard.

That said, being in the Neuroscience dept and considering the Bio department, I can truly say that the Cell & molec department would make me so frustrated because one of the key teachers is the biggest douche I have ever met and, like many other science professors, is only there because of his research money granted. Stay clear of this, do yourself a favor and choose an easier major.

The one thing I would say is; though there is an intellectual environment, YOU MUST BE OKAY WITH DRiNKING/PARTYING because YOU LIVE in NEW ORLEANS. Work hard play hard, many students go out and have a good time.

Fantastic university, and worth my money though Bruff sucks.
