Morehead State University is what you make of it. Negative: 90% attend for an easy degree. Those seeking an easy college diploma will find that MSU is a good fit, given the relatively low cost of tuition along with classes that basically high school level. Yes, those classes abound in every department and in every major at the graduate and undergraduate level. Showing up and turning in anything means a "B". You really have to be a screw-up to get a "C" or lower. There is the social effect of attending Morehead State. Most people aren't ambitious. Most people didn't do well on the ACT/SAT. Many students take their sweet time at the school irrespective of whether they completed a degree or not. If you're in this environment, the carefree attitude will rub off on you. Positive: 10% attend for an education. The 10% represent those who want to learn and then pursue an advanced degree (Ph.D., J.D., etc..,) at another institution. They are a small group who take the more challenging classes, participate in class discussions, and actually contribute to the intellectual mission of the university. Not only do this 10% thrive at MSU, when they go other institutions, they give MSU a good name. Overall recommendation: Go elsewhere if you are ambitious. Know of any Morehead alumnus who went to an Ivy League school? You're chances of attending a Top 50 university, as defined by US News, is next to non-existent if you go to Morehead State. The best you can hope for is the likes of UK and UofL. You may have a 4.0 from MSU, but many Top 50 schools will say "it's a Morehead 4.0."
