Who ever was writing about this degree being a waste of money was obviously not taking it seriously and was not practicing enough. Its easy to get by if you don't try at music school, but the point is to get a job. I have a lot of friends who have gotten alternate of many orchestral auditions, and I know a few from school who have recently won jobs. The classical percussion studio is impeccable. They all keep winning jobs left and right. As a brass player/wind player, it is essential to get as much orchestral experience as possible(and why not with some of the best college string players in the nation?), especially as jobs are getting harder and harder to win. If you want to play in band, this isn't the best school for you; most of the band rep we play are wind serenades and chamber music. The liberal arts classes are too exciting/strenuous/hard, because they expect you to be spending most of your time practicing. If your into academics, you can dual degree at tufts or harvard, or you can take classes at Northeastern and many surrounding universities/colleges.
