JU SURVEY ___________________________________________________

STUDENTS:

During student orientation, I met many great professors, and students. They seemed to be very encouraging and supportive.

ADMISSION:

In order to gain acceptance into Jacksonville, I would recommend applying with a GPA of atleast 2.5. A "D" or two will not stop you from gaining admission, just be sure to have plenty of "C"s, "B"s, and "A"s to compromise your final grade. Overall, I feel certain the admissions policy isn't too competitive, especially since I struggle with math, and find the subject overwhelming, and managed to "place" out of college algebra with a grade of 40%.

FINANCIAL AID:

If you are paying with financial aid, just be aware you BETTER have plenty of scholarship and grant money to cover the REST of the costs. After you exaust all your fafsa monies, you will still have a balance of atleast 16k to pay. I can't think of many high school graduates, or even many community college graduates (such as myself) that has boat loads of money to pump into such a money hungry institution such as JU. My advice is: If you want to go to Jacksonville University, by all means do so, but be willing to accept the consequences of poor support from Financial Aid, and lastly, the disappointing discovery that you still owe JU THOUSANDS of dollars after you receive your award letter. No logical thinker will tell you that paying almost 40k is worth an education, because it just flat out isn't, especially if you are looking for a challenging education!

NROTC:

I am aware JU offers a minor in Naval Sciences, but I found out that the requirements for joining the program differs from others at other colleges and universities. Here's a word of advice: If you plan to join NROTC at JU, you will NOT be accepted if you transfer to JU holding an A.A. or A.S. . . . word of mouth directly from a NROTC staff member. Also, the JU NROTC does NOT offer 2 year scholarships. Other NROTC programs at other universities do, but the JU Naval Science Dpt. DOESN'T.

SPORTS:

If you are transferring from a community college, don't count of running cc, or track, or playing any other sport. You will be informed from the director that you could have only a year or less to be involved with athletics because of the first 2 or 3 years you were absent at the university, and un-involved with the program (NCAA guidelines). What a dissapointment, huh?

OVERALL ADVICE: Good luck finding the college that is suitable for you that accomidates all your needs, just be aware there are great colleges besides Jacksonville that are just as prestigious that are a lot cheaper, and has more to offer. Ever since I applied to JU of last year, I have browsed the net, and discovered many other great colleges where you can get "bang for your buck". If you are considering ROTC, there are many colleges that house these programs (Navy and Air Force) that have outstanding out-of-state, and in-state tuition rates. I will remind you once more: JU cost of attendence - $37,000 per year! Good Luck paying that! If you could, it would be a waste.
