They market well and remodel to make the product look aesthetically pleasing on the outside like a new edition of a textbook may change almost nothing about its content, but justifies inflation because it happens to flaunt a different picture on its cover. Ignite Change. Go, don't go (No-va).Heed the slogan just like the Obama "change" campaign. Everyone means well, but it is easy to talk about improvement without actually implementing it due to various factors. At the end of the day the politics of the generation that precedes all your good intentions will have you feeling disappointed about being affiliated with this place with each passing day. In a twisted way it truly does follow Catholic tradition by attempting to keep up appearances to sustain itself as it rationalizes its age-old values every which way to gather enough approval keep funding where they want or do not want to keep funding. I guess if you open your eyes wide enough to notice that this is happening, you will get a sense of the real world here, but if you are smart enough to realize this you would probably be smart enough to succeed anywhere else. If you do not get money to come here, do yourself a favor and just cross it off the list. There is nothing special going on here that justifies the cost of its sticker price. Come here and get decent grades a semester or two, then transfer out to a more diverse institution and expand your mind with experiences that do not require you to do the same thing over and over again. This is the definition of insanity. They aren't lying about how you have to get in random cars to undisclosed locations to drink terrible beer in gross, overcrowded places. When you're old enough to hit the bars or manage to get a fake so your ticket party money doesn't just go towards everyone else's drinks, then you have the opportunity to the same thing along the main line with the same people, but this time you get to spend even more money doing it. It all works out because some kids here are so loaded that they don't sell drugs to make money, they sell because they're bored. People are simply bored. Academics are hit or miss with different teachers as they probably are with any other above average school. Freshman year, we went around the room and the consensus was that this was everyone's back-up school to the ivies or they got in ND/UVA but their parents didn't want them too far from the tri-state. People stick around because they make a few good friends and fall into the illusion that this uneventful place is what college is all about. Kids that end up here are smart and their opinions more often than not do not align with the image of institution, but it doesn't look like any change will be happening since the younger generation will probably not be happy enough with their experience to be willing to give money back to this school. It will likely continue to provide a safe playground for all your smart middle/upperclass suburbanites who want to enjoy the bubble before dealing with the real world for many, many years to come. This is sad in the grand scheme of what you may imagine college should and could be, but compared to the other options out there for the same price with a shittier academic reputation, this place may actually be a gem? |
