It is the responsibility of the ecollge to graduate the student within 4 years and to make sure they are employable as well. Students who are at a Liberal Arts school have the opportunity to double major and still graduate within a 4 year time frame. With the cost of higher education increasing it gives a huge advantage to schools who can graduate their students within 4 years-it is our responsibility to do so! Also, at Liberal Arts schools you do not have to declare your major until your second year. I am sure many of you are thinking that private Liberal Arts schools are more expensive-you will be surprised that you are wrong. With students graduating within 4 years they save a year of tuition and they also have the don't lose the earning potential of those who stay in for 5 years. With those schools graduating their students in 5 years they are paying for a whole extra year and with many of these schools being public schools they do not offer the financial aid that private schools can. I have been in the Admissions profession for over 7 years and I feel it is safe to say that I find that students are more successful and goal driven if they graduate in 4 years and Mom and Dad are happy to not pay for an unneeded year of education! |
