So I've been attending UH for two years now and I can honestly give some real feedback to the experience you will have. The only shining light at this university is the honors college. Students who are in honors usually take academics pretty seriously, are pretty liberal, and most importantly open minded.

Other than the honors college, the university needs to improve the quality of the student body immensely. There are some real hood rats at this school, in addition to other forms of "diversity". You can call this school the second most diverse in the nation but when 90% of the asians segregate themselves with other asians, I don't see how the general student body can benefit from it. It's like that with almost every race on campus with the sole exception being the students from the honors college who are generally very sociable with other races.

This whole segregation stems from the inherent suburbanism that thrives on this campus. The majority of the student population commutes from the suburbs and still holds that mentality when it comes to the close minded bubble they call home. This suburbanism also extends into life for those who actually live on campus. I have never seen so many wanksters in my life who listen to nothing but rap music and are from the woodlands or katy. Please, yall aint hood. I'm no inner city snob but the amount of ignorance and lack of open-mindness at this institution is astounding.

The school itself is pretty decent academically but a lot of the professors are way too hard on students. UH has some of the highest gpa deflation in the country and if you're serious about going to a good law/med school then avoid this place at all costs because your GPA will SUFFER.

Also the campus lacks zero identity when it comes to aesthetics and architecture. Sure the new buildings are hella nice but they all look so out of place. There's a severe lack of consistency when it comes to architecture and

UH can not hold a candle to Rice or UT's campus who actually take pride in keeping their university uniform and beautiful.

So all in all UH is definitely a good place if you're close minded, enjoy commuting in 100 degree weather, and are enthralled by newness rather than character.
