Just like any other college, MCNY has it's problems. I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Human Services and have been unable to find a job solely based on the reputation of this college. I worked hard to get good grades and learn the philsophy that Audrey Cohen had created for her school. I'll admit, the theory of "Purposes" is a beautiful one. However, the staff, the lack of communication amongst the administration and the way I have seen students treated is horrible. A week before my graduation in 2011, I received a letter stating that I wouldn't graduate because they couldn't prove that I graduated from High School. I thought it was a mistake, so I went to the registrar to clear the situation. It wasn't a mistake. This also wasn't the first degree I had received from the college. I was awarded my associates degree the year prior. This school even let me start my Master's Degree. I withdrew from the Master's program because of the amount of money I was paying for classes that I was doing for free on the OEM website. The school let me start my Master's program and then wouldn't put my loan information through to cover the semester because of the lack of my Highschool diploma. Might I add that they have a copy of the actual diploma in my file because that was a requirement when registered for my first set of classes in 2008. Now, I have a credit company telling me that I owe the school $9,600, thus ruining my credit score. This isn't the only problem I have had with the school. The reputation is ruined within the Human Service sector. I had one person I interviewed with tell me that she couldn't hire me because the organization had to fire previous employees who graduated from the school who couldn't read. I feel horrible that I went to this school. The idea is great but they need to change their policies and especially the President. I hope they will get back to the reputation they had when my mother graduated from here in 2004.
