I spent 2 years as an undergraduate, from 1996 to 1998. I started out in a 4-year degree (commercial writing), but ultimately got a 2-year medical secretary degree. I won't get into my reasons for changing my major. Overall I think the school is great, and you do get a solid education. Personally, I was minimally prepared for college life in some ways. I had not owned or had access to a computer in the years before I went to college, so I had to learn how to use one, which I feel held me back grade-wise (I did graduate with a 3.1 average GPA). Secondly, I am a very backward person who does NOT like to ask for help, which of course is my fault, so when I didn't know what I was doing, I just tended to wing it and hope for the best. My teachers for the most part were wonderful. I only wish I had been a bit more proactive and getting help when I needed it. My most negative experience at PCC came after I graduated. I got a job working at the college in the business office and absolutely hated it. I count it one of the worst jobs I've ever had. Being thrown in there with lots to learn in very little time and little pay, dealing with parents snapping and even cursing at me over the phone as well as a generally unpleasant, unwelcome atmosphere in that office made this job extremely hard. I also worked in the Distribution Center, which wasn't much better for the same reasons. Bottom line, great school, horrible place to work. I'm so glad I'm out of there now. There were…and probably are still…some miserable people who work there. I am extremely happy now. Married with a little boy and my life couldn't be better. Was just reminiscing and had to share.
