In my personal opinion this school is pretty awesome. I feel like it is different from others. The clich?

College is what you make of it
is absolutely correct, if you are not pursuing something that you love and are just blindly following something then you are obviously going to hate it. I am from California and when I was applying I was looking for something different, out of my comfort zone and a new experience; and UNH has brought many good experiences my way.

The school may look very costly at first glance; ($44,000/year) however, it is a private university and will usually cost more. One thing you should take note is that privates cost more but also give more in financial aid and scholarships/grants. However, I may be a special case because of my financial background, but I am paying $4,500 a semester to go here and though that still may be hard to pay for it will be well worth it in the future.

I feel like the engineering department is getting better and better. They are receiving much more money now and the facilities keep getting better. I loved all the classes that I took that pertained to my major and cannot wait to continue this fall. I hear that there will be more improvements to the campus soon too. There have also been talks of adding more food locations. They already created the new Charger field and brought that football, new dorms are in the plans and a bunch of other things.

Getting involved is important, and I joined the marching band which they just started. It is growing extremely quickly featuring winds, drumline, front ensemble, and guard sections ( _email_removed_ for more info) and I feel like it will grow to something wonderful. There are also many different clubs, and if there is something you want to join but not yet available you can easily start it. There is greek life on campus (though somewhat different then the norm). There are also many honor societies, and opportunities for internships (which is required to graduate, I am glad it is because everyone should have some internship hours before they step into the real world).

The city around us isn't the best, however the campus is really nice and I feel completely safe 100% of the time. It has its mixture of modern styled buildings and the traditional east coast older-looking buildings. I love the diversity in architecture. I have read reviews before stating how it?s a commuter school and the campus is empty every weekend, but it?s not like that anymore. Many people from out of state are coming in (including me). There's always stuff to do, either going down Boston Post Road to the mall (very nice, recently remodeled and biggest in Connecticut), going to a house party (at least one is going on every weekend), going to the club (a couple in downtown New Haven), or checking out downtown New Haven and eating there. It?s easy to get to these places too, either taking the UNH shuttle, CT Bus (free bus pass given), a taxi, or through a friend. There are also planned events by SCOPE that happen many of the weekends, they are free and extremely fun (I went to a comedy club once and to Six Flags in New Jersey).

The people at the university are generally bright and friendly. I feel I became more social because of the welcoming nature of everyone which includes faculty. It?s easy to make friends here, especially in the LLC?s (Living Learning Communities) which I suggest everyone to try to join. For example I was in the engineering LLC and everyone on my floor was some type of engineer. I became friends with a really awesome group of people, plus we all went to class together and were able to help each other in class work or any other problems if need be.

I would ask myself what you are looking for in a university, each have their good and their bad but one must prioritize what they want most. I suggest doing much research in this school and all other schools that you are planning to go to. If you can visit the school, I was not able to visit because of my distance from the school, but I did countless hours of research and I am loving this school every day. Pick the best school that is for you, and if it is UNH then I?ll see you on campus!
