I just graduated from UH and I couldn't ask for a better college experience.

People who haven't attended UH often have preconceived notions about the university—boring, just a commuter school, high crime, etc. I'm here to tell you all that is false. This is one of the best universities in America. UH is changing drastically everyday. I've been here for 5 years and I can tell you that it's not the same school it was when I started. It has many more students, new buildings, better athletics, school spirit and national recognition.

Campus Life—college is what ever you make of it. UH is no different. Yes, there is a significant portion that commutes but there is also a large part of the student body that lives on campus. Plenty of students leave near the University, too. I don't see why that would be a bad idea? There are plenty of nice and affordable areas close to campus. Gas prices are ridiculous and this is the 4th largest city, so there is going to be endless traffic. There are plenty of clubs and organizations to get involved in—SGA, the school paper, frats, sororities, athletic clubs, etc. I worked at the campus radio station and I've mad tons of friends throughout the semester there. There are always activities taking place on campus, even on the weekends and/or holidays. How many schools can you name that have a bar on campus? How many have bowling allies that stay open quite late? The point is: you can't complain that there is nothing to do on campus. There is plenty to do. You just have to make the effort. They are currently building more dorms and apartments for the student body.

Student Body: UH is an example of what a modern society is supposed to look like. This is the only place in the south where EVERYBODY gets along. As a minority, I feel like I'm part of something special. I've never heard of or seen discrimination take place on campus. Everyone gets along great. You see plenty of interracial couples walking across campus. You seen plenty of diverse groups in the UC and the library. Schools like Texas A&M or other SEC schools are 20 years backwards. Schools like that create bad images of southerners. This is the direction the United States is going in—diversity and a different view point. We have a biracial president last time I checked, right? UH is for everyone. You'll see 18 year olds, you'll see army vets, 40 year olds and foreign exchange students. It's awesome. It's like a little city in it's self. There are also plenty of good looking women to choose from.

Athletics: Football season is amazing. All the home games were sold out, tons of school spirit and a sea of red and white on game days. The school is moving to the Big East, which means more publicity for the basketball program. The recruiting class for next year is ridiculous. The basketball arena will be PACKED in a couple of seasons.

Campus: It is a very modern campus. New technology and architecture. The campus is growing day by day. However, if you look around the Roy Cullen building, there is still an historical element to the campus.

The UH administration is working diligently to improve the overall quality of the university. We are just getting started. The school is becoming closer to becoming Tier 1. We have 4 nobel peace prize winners on campus. Our president is putting us on the map. Plenty of research and programs are being added to the school. UH alumni are everywhere! That's the difference between us and other schools. We have amazing people calling the shots. If I haven't convinced you to apply here, then I'm sorry. Keep this school on your radar. UH is changing. People who applied to all these other schools are going to regret not coming here and being part of the experience.
