I have Asperger syndrome, which is a mild form of autism, and it sometimes affects my ability to study and prioritize (I have deficits in what is called executive functioning, which is the part of your brain that is responsible for planning, organization, self-reflection, motivation, etc). That being said, I don't trust the Disability Services department to even understand what it is, much less provide adequate treatment or accommodations. If you don't literally sound retarded they will refuse to believe that you need help or are disabled at all. If you have a disability that will seriously interfere with your ability to study on your own, to the point where you need help from the university of you will fail, DO NOT COME HERE. In my case I am a milder case I'm able to do well academically with a little help from my parents and planning notebooks. Socially, I still struggle a lot, but it's not anything new to me. I've met a couple good, understanding friends here. |
