Shimer, for me at least, is the only place I could imagine going to. It's the only place that has fostered my development as a human being, as a scholar, as a brother, a son, and a friend. There is no place quite like Shimer and I love it, even with its flaws. It's not a school for the faint of heart, that is- those who want to fly through college and get their degree to go on and get that $150K/year job will not do well here. You can still graduate from Shimer and get a great job, but you cannot breeze through Shimer's intense curriculum. If you want to learn, develop your critical thinking skills, engage in dialogues for EVERY class, feel like your thoughts and views matter, and you're willing to put the effort it takes into keeping that atmosphere alive; Shimer is the place for you. |
