ASU is the ultimate big state school with the accompanying lack of personal attention, inefficient administration, and huge classes being either hits or misses. While professors generally read off powerpoint slides, and T.A.s teach many classes, there are occassional gems among the chaff. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the administration, which is an unabated disaster. Expect DMV quality service at the very best. There is such a huge variety of students here that anyone who cares enough will be able to find his niche. However, it can't be denied that the majority of people are here from other states to party, drink, and have fun. Which means you can skip class and still do fine. There is a lot number of people from Cali who failed to make it to the UC. Basically they are UCLA wannabees minus the brain. Many students from the East Coast are equally intellectually lacking. The majority of people are alcoholics and classes are dumbed down accordingly to accompany their unique condition. But try hard enough, and avoid the party scene and there are some decent research opportunities as well as real intellectual conversation. Be proactive and be extremely persistent and you will succeed. |
