The RPI community is an extremely interesting body of students that is always bright, sometimes browbeaten, and always just a little bit strange. You'll be attending school on a campus where black hole jokes are hilarious and Stephen Hawking is a demigod. Visit the school and mingle with the kids a bit - you can easily tell an 'RPI kid' from someone that isn't.

Usually, having a 3.0 GPA opens a lot of doors here - companies will come calling, people will give you swag at career events, powerful people will e-mail you back, and that's the power of the RPI name. However, if you dip below that, you'll be widely ignored by companies - most won't even be willing to take your resume; you'll get lost in the fog of perfects with 3.98s.

Courses are extremely tough with a large amount of difficult work that may or may not be explained well. There are no 'easy A' courses to be had here. A hard school to adjust to for kids like me that never really had to work hard in high school. Take your first year classes seriously, don't let the general education drivel get to you.

An excellent institute with excellent marketability, provided you can excel. Held together by the incredible quality, integrity, and friendship of its student community.

Troy has its charms…and its dark alleyways too. Not a great place to 'go downtown and hang out', although there are a few student frequented locales. However, the proximity of the school to the city of Albany means that many excellent restaurants, bars, and concert venues are only a 20 minute drive away.
