There's two main reviews for UC: the bureaucracy and the academics. I'll start with the negative first. The onestop center & admissions are very bureaucratic. I've been told several things by different people on the same subject. They tend to treat most students like a number and are generally unhelpful & condescending if they need additional help. Although they claim to be open to new students regardless of differences, they certainly hold a bias against anyone who is not a traditional student. If you are a non-traditional student, have a unique social background, & also happen to look non-white, etc, you will be regarded with suspicion & will be reluctantly helped. This is really the worst side of UC because not only am I paying the tuition, but these staff members only care if you bring in additional revenue. All they require is that you don?t ask or speak, which is quite disgusting. Therefore, any other questions are considered a waste of their time. Clearly, I do not care for this side of UC. I am in my mid-twenties & had to continue college later for several unforeseeable factors. My experience with this piece of bureaucratic nonsense was quite unacceptable. You?ll probably see this sort of negative attitude at some random places or offices scattered throughout the campus, but I am optimistic.

Now?for the positives! UC, academically, is amazing for anyone who is curious & wants to work hard at a challenge. My liberal arts professors, mostly tenured or Phd, are generally passionate about their subject & will welcome great discussions and ideas. My liberal arts classes are generally challenging, usually requiring ample time & analytic thinking. I have also met interesting classmates with different beliefs and backgrounds, so I felt that I was living in a mini city on campus. Most students are from Ohio, but you?ll still meet some who hail from other states or outside the US. Social life just depends on who choose as friends or the places you choose to visit around the Cincinnati areas. The libraries are really helpful & have ample resources. The library staff & their IT people are usually courteous and willing to help.

Overall, UC is what you make of it. For the tuition cost & quality of the major classes, the degree is a sweet deal. You can graduate with relatively little debt if you balanced school work & worked paid internships/co-ops during the summer. There are certain other negatives like general education requirements or random 100-200 level classes with condescending TAs & petty adjunct instructors; so the sooner you sign-up for your degree/major classes, the better you?ll feel. This might be humorous, but most computer lab staff is really rude if you bring anything resembling a mug, so hide it! If you have a positive attitude and use the campus resources, such as the recreation center & the main library, you should be able to attend & continue school with little difficulty. That?s all for now!
