The University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Architecture had a mission during my attendance to elevate the level of education. The long time goal had been to advance the level of creativity and ingenuity in an architectural community that had become stagnated. The degree of focus on personal development was not high when I first started and I was worried that the institution might be offering a turn key degree, but that fear was gon after completion of my first year. The professors constantly challenged my skill level and helped guide me to define my personal Architectural interests. In the last year or so of my education the program added a practical practice program which is their Architectural Doctorate. I did not participate in that program, but my level of preparation was more than adequate to enter the work force and quickly find my a niche for my specilized interests as wel as advance my career quickly. Within three years of graduation I was middle management at a medium sized firm of just architects and 7 years after graduation I became middle management at a very large firm. I know that I owe much of my success to the educational environment that was more a result of the efforts Architecture School faculty rather than the University. |
