However as a geology major, I felt my time at UC was not worth. Everything went downhill after the university switched over to semesters for the first time in years. In the case of the geology department, they seemed unprepared for the conversion and created new semester courses last minute. These courses were also major courses; I expected more from these classes, but was disappointed. First off, many of this classes were 2 hours long and I expected a lot of material to be covered. However, very little was discussed in class and a lot of the material had to be looked up on the internet or in the textbook. The exception to this is sedimentary geology and earth history in which the professor actually covered more material in class than the textbook. Another thing, I was pursuing a BS in geology and was surprised that I was more than halfway done with the degree by my sophomore year and possibly be done by my junior year. By the second semester, I was fed up with the mismanaged courses and I decided to transfer to Ohio State because the geology program is better there. All of the geology courses I took at UC didn't transfer over, but I didn't care because I was looking for a restart. After I transferred to Ohio State, I finally feel I'm actually learning useful material in my major. |
