I have a very mixed review of Wingate University - I transferred in 2003 and graduated in 2005. Overall, I loved my professors, but found the campus social life stifling and administrators focused more on running the college like a business. The good - the professors in my majors (Spanish and Sociology) were great. Very motivated, encouraging, and recognized my potential. I spent a good bit of time outside of class socializing with them. I do wish, however, that profs would have been more demanding. The bad - I was accused of a felony by another student based on a series of events. Dean Bill Nash was horridly unprofessional about the matter. He sent me a threatening matter, even with lack of evidence to support the fellow student's claim. I was once made to wait for him 45 minutes after he asked me to visit him for a scheduled appt. - he was busy meeting with athletic coaches. I was ultimately sent a threatening letter from him warning me that my status as a student would be threatened if I ever spoke to the student again. Never did he listen to my side of the story. Talk about a lack of leadership! Campus life - dominated by Greek life (despite having 1,000 or so students on campus), if you don't like sororities/fraternities, you probably won't like the campus.Word of Advice - Wingate is (and was when I attended) exorbitantly expensive for no good reason. The school has no notable alums, no outstanding programs, the campus life sucks, and the town smells of turkey plants and despite being semi-rural, you can hear the trains pass every hour or so. Unless you get a good scholarship, invest your money elsewhere. |
