For the right student, this school is fine. Having previously gone to a university that had close to 15,000 students, going to UNCA's population of 3500 was a shock. It reminded me of high school. Most students are very cliquey and are very wary of transfer students. You will also see the same people in your classes pretty much every single semester. Like I said, if that's what you're looking for, then that is fine for you. However, if you are looking for a school to just get a degree, 99% of the teachers care and are more than willing to help. All of the ones I've had answer their email in a timely manner, have nice office hours and are willing to talk. Same goes for every other office on this campus. Everyone is willing to help. The campus police aren't as bad as other campuses, if you need them, they're there. Granted I say that because I'm over 21 and didn't stay on campus but did have to ask them some questions.I honestly was not challenged in the majority of my classes. While I liked the professors and the subject matter, I can only count 2 classes out of my time here as being challenging. I felt like it was busy work. I have taken all upper level classes 300-400 level.Having grown up in WNC, I was already used to some of Asheville's going ons. The music scene is ok, there's plenty of little shops, there's the parkway and nice restaurants. My advice to students looking at this school would be to weigh the pros and cons of going here. Look at the size, location, and please, realize that there are other places you can go and get a degree from. |
