My favorite thing about Berry was the academics. As a biology major, I found the faculty in my department incredibly helpful and dedicated to teaching. If you take the time, the small school environment allows you to get to know your professors much more closely than a large university, and that is helpful for letters of recommendation. My least favorite part about the school is the social life and student body, although your mileage may vary. I felt bored and lonely, perhaps because I'm not into the perpetually cheesy extracurricular activities offered or in any religious groups. The students were decent enough, but I felt like I never fit in. They're pretty stereotypically small-town Christian—so they're very friendly, but I could never relate or make strong connections. Some people like the surrounding town, although if you're from a larger city like I am, you will probably find it very, very dull. Not much in the way of things to do or places to eat… and everything closes on Sunday. I left town almost every weekend for the whole four years. |
