I grew up between UNC and Duke, so I am used to a more intelligent, preppier, more basically normal environment than Asheville is. Unless you consider yourself a hipster, a generally strange person, social reject or you want to be a hipster then Asheville is not for you. Asheville is a very small school filled with a lot of very similar people who claim to be "open-minded," when in all reality they are extremely close-minded towards anyone that has any ideas that do not agree with their own. I came to Ashveille with the intentions of transferring to another private and significantly higher ranked school. After my first semester I was incredibly depressed. The environment drives people to do drugs. If you go there you will be constantly surrounded by people doing all sorts of drugs. It is completely normal for people to trip on a daily basis, and everyone smokes weed, CONSTANTLY. People are also very clique-ish and incredibly just strange. I hate this school with a passion and it really ruined my college experience. I was planning on dropping out after this semester and leaving the country because I was simply repulsed with the idea of ever having to be in a situation like this again. Thankfully I talked to my friends and they convinced me to transfer after this semester. I really liked the city of Asheville prior to my horrendous experience, and now I hate the ares. After this semester I will never again return to Western North Carolina unless I am forced to. I have never been so thankful to come home and to simply be surrounded by normal people who don't constantly do drugs and try to express their individuality by dressing like homeless people. I really just want to warn people who think that there will be diversity and that there will be normal people in Asheville, because there really aren't besides Athletes. They Athletes will not talk to you unless you are an athlete or they want to have sex with you so don't go in thinking that you are going to be an exception,you wont. The greek life is a sad joke and a disgrace to other greek life, it is filled with people that really just do not belong in greek life. If you are a weirdo and think you belong in Asheville then please go there I do not want you anywhere near me, but if you are a normal person and want any type of a future or positive college experience then don't go there. THE WORST SCHOOL EVER. |
