Parsons is known as design school, and its reputation as an architecture school is rather new and weaker than in other departments. However, the faculty and infra-structure of the school make up to its program youth, with faculty that will challenge students all the time, encourage them to go deeper into the subjects, and improve constantly. The student body is not the best tho: most international students only care about getting their degree and returning home, and won't look to form any real friendships. As for the Americans, I found them nice, but very competitive and not social enough. In such a massively demanding environment it's necessary to take advantage of NYC's nightlife to chill, and most students don't seem to be that social, concentrating too much on the studio. My overall experience was a very good one: professionally, I feel much more prepared than before I entered Parsons. However, I feel that had I attended another school I would have more friends, and less 'contacts'. |
